The Sun Salutation, or Surya Namaskara (SOOR-yuh nah-muh-SKAR-uh), is a series of poses performed in a sequence to create a flow of movement and breathing; trying to achieve a calm and mindfulness place.
For me its the perfect combination between:
- Deep Breathing Exercises to help calm my daily anxiety and nicotine cravings:
- And Warm Up/ Stretching Exercises essencial before my daily running session.
Sun Salutation A — Surya Namaskara A
There are many variations of Sun Salutations. The sequence presented below is often referred to as “Sun Salutation A” (Surya Namaskara A). It includes the basic components of a Sun Salutation as understood in most styles of yoga. Each pose coordinates with your breathing: Inhale to extend, and exhale to bend.
Always breathe through your nose only, as this warms the air and helps you reach a meditative state to your practice.
There are different variants of Sun Salutation. This one is my favorite. Take a deep breath and go for it.
